You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. I want to be able to type my translations when testing my memory

It feels to me that I need to actually write the word translation every time I recall its meaning, instead of just rating how easy or difficult it was. This would make it more probable that the word sticks in my mind for longer.

  2. Generative & scaffolded practice

I'd like the tests to require me to do something with the word/phrase - type it, say it, write a sentence with it, post something about it to twitter, etc. I'd like the tests to be progressively more difficult, e.g. from recognition to production and for the difficult to increase in relation to my performance

  3. Play the pronunciation automatically when doing the quiz

Whenever Duolingo asks for a certain word, it plays the sound for it. This way my memory gets comfortable with both the sound and the spelling of the word at the same time. It would be great to see this in Lexicum too.

  4. Show users when they are in an activity streak

You probably know that learning is about habits and persistence. That's why it is good when apps help with maintaining continuous motivation. Duolingo has one good way of doing this: through tracking activity streaks and letting people show off with their achievement in persistence. It's nice to immerse into the race and one day realised that in the meantime you've learned a lot. It would be great if Lexicum had a way to show how many days or weeks in a row I've practiced my vocabulary.

  5. short stories

I think the short stories must be helpful on the base of current affairs and different kinds of news like spots, movies, arts and the things their worlds respectively keep on repeating with easy understanding.

  6. get corrected when I misspell a word

When I look for a word that the dictionary cannot find, possibly it could make corrective suggestions.

  8. provide examples of how words that I search are used

I want to see examples of how the word is used. You have these things on http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn for example

  9. There is little control over what is quizzed.

If you could allow the user to check words that they want to be quizzed on, that would be a great help.

If you showed a multiple choice of 5 words on the left and 5 meanings on the right, then have user match correctly, that would be nice.

  10. have browser addon for contextualized word search

I'd like to have an integration of Lexicum with the browser. This way when I read an article and encounter a word I don't know, I can right-click it and add it to my wordbook from the context menu. This is something similar to what Buffer offers:
    http://screencast.com/t/m766rgNoM
This saves me keeping Lexicum open in a browser tab and copying the word to the clipboard to paste it in the Lexicum tab.

  11. I want to be able to sort and filter my words

I wish I could either sort alphabetically or by newest/oldest.
I also wish I could filter my words by starting letters.

  12. Additional feature for easy learning of synonyms

It would be very helpful if I could save a word and thus get a list of all its possible translations and meanings I want to memorise in a certain langugage. For example type "try" in English and save the list of all the contextual Spanish translations.
It would be an easy way to learn synonyms and be able to make the difference between single meanings/connotations of these synonyms.

  14. Glossary

    Good evening Infidels :),

If you allow me to make just a couple of observations.
Since each and every foreign language learner tries to compare his/her mother language (L1) with the language of acquisition (L2), semantically and structurally, he or she eventually falls into the trap of attempting to transfer every construction into his own language. From psychological prospective a learner will have the tendency to avoid a structure which is not familiar to him/her, which is perfectly normal. But this approach can also have a harmful effect on the language learning process. Often, there is neither equivalence nor Tertium…

  15. Add words by voice recognition

I'd like to use an app that recognises words by pronounciation, adds them to the dictionary or gives a translation, if it is already in the dictionary.

  19. Add a whole dictionary into the app (or to be able to find such already uploaded)

To be able to load a a whole dictionary for the selected languages, for instance, If I don't want to add manually all the words I encounter. I just want to have already inserted words for the selected language I want to learn
